Fact (9-26-2004): Name of the film will be 'Devastation'. Fact (9-26-2004): A plot has yet to be released. Rumor (9-26-2004): Universal will be the distributor. Rumor (9-26-2004): Filming for MK3 begins late October, early Novemberish in Australia and China. Fact (9-26-2004): Chris Lambert, Linden Ashby, and Chris Cassmassa are all returning. Rumor (9-26-2004): Russell Mulcahy will direct. Pre-September 2004 (These are old, and are NOT up-to-date. Take with a grain of salt.): Fact: There are a few scripts that have been written. False Rumor: Paul W.S. Anderson most likely direct the film. Fact: Christopher Lambert and Linden Ashby are returning Fact: Rey-Phillip Santos said he auditioned, but didn't get the role. Fact: Cung Le auditioned a long while ago. Somewhere in 2002. Fact: Red Williams' site announced an MK-3, but the site is down. Fact: Williams' site reported Lambert's return. Fact: Linden Ashby said he read a script and said it was 'good.' Also mentioned that they're in legal roundabouts Fact: Stacey Dash said she will play 'a character named Tanya' and she'll be doing lots of fighting in an interview August of 2002 Rumor: Quan Chi will be the main villain (confirmed at mortalkombat.com) Fact: Johnny Cage will be in the next movie. Fact: Robin Shou was quoted to say "I am the chosen one," when asked about MK3. Fact: Kung Lao (a worker at TH) was at the now defunct mortalkombat.com forums answering questions about the movie. He implied that the movie will not be called DOMINATION, but it will be called DEVASTATION. Fact: KungLao also said Liu Kang would NOT BE THE ONE TO DIE. Fact: Lao also mentioned that Blind Kenshi will be in the movie (so the story will revolve around MK:DA?) Rumor: Frost will be in it; the MKDA team and Threshold both helped create that character. Rumor: Movie will be called 'Domination' Rumor: The main plot revolves around Sub-Zero Rumor: Another plot rumor involved Rayden resurrecting Johnny Cage to help the Earth warriors defeat the deadly alliance, Quan Chi and Shang Tsung. Rumor: Liu Kang will die (like what happened in the MK:DA game) Rumor: Shooting supposedly started in November. Rumor: Christopher Lambert will return as Rayden. *Robin Shou, Liu Kang of both MK films, has been busy promoting his independent film, Red Trousers, in North America, Honk Kong, and Hawaii. So if they have been filming the past few months, he wasn't with them. *Linden Ashby was recently casted as a short-term character for the Soap Opera The Young and the Restless. *Threshold is also working on a Duke Nukem movie which, coincidentally, has also been at an apparent stand-still for two years. *New Line and Threshold have supposedly been in a fight over the Mortal Kombat license for the past few years. The cheese known as Mortal Kombat: Annihilation was blamed on New Line. So what Threshold basically did was wait until their (New Line) rights to the license expired. So now Threshold has full rights to the MK license (this must be why various rumored cast members were asked about the progress of MK3, most said "We're just waiting now." So in other words: Threshold has complete control now. *(1-25-2004) Drew McWeeny commented that MK3 has been through tons of name changes, and that simply MK3 was always the working title. He said that he doesn't think they still have an official name for it. Another thing that was brought up was that MK3 was a Threshold priority BEFORE MK:DA was released, so I'd imagine with its popularity they will release the movie. *(2-2-2004) In an interview, Paul W.S. Anderson (director of the first MK movie) was asked if he was interested in directing the third film. He said that while he enjoyed doing the first film, he would rather do other projects. Thanks to Jason Rainwater for the heads up. *(2-2-2004) Sorry for the late posting on this guys-- In around June 2003 mortalkombat.com
removed its message board and replaced it with this message: Mortal Kombat fans, while we are making preparations for the next MK movie, we are happy to offer you the ability to get your thoughts directly to the producers of the film. We are replacing this message board with an email box for you to contact the producers directly. email your desires for the movie to: producer1@Mortalkombat.com We will read the messages, but because we are busy with the film, we may not respond directly. Please don't send any fanfic or spec scripts as they will be deleted and not read. Share with us who you would like to see in the next project, who you wouldn't like to see, and who your favorites are! All correspondence becomes the property of Threshold Entertainment. |
