MovieHole Article on MK3
Moviehole.net has written an article claiming some new information regarding MK3, as well as some other tasty information. Unlike what has been rumored before, the movie supposedly will no longer be a sequel, prequel or anything of the sort. Instead, Threshold is vying to ‘reinvent’ the franchise with new concepts and styles. As the article implies, think Batman Begins.
As we know, Threshold cut New Line loose from the license somewhere around 2000. And apparently, since then, MK3 has gone through a mire of script rewrites and retoolings. Apparently they are still going through these today, claiming the complication of all parts involved (producers, writers, Threshold, Midway, and now the most recent rumored studio- Lionsgate) as the reason for all the delays.
A consistency in the past few years of MK3 news is that Mink is still the supposed director. In fact, the article claims that the director has been fielding questions at MK3’s IMDB page. If this is true, then God help us.
And finally, the writer cited an inside source named ‘Rayden’, as well as another unspecified one. Because of this, like always, this news is to be considered yet another wave in the endless that are bound to come and probably change it. To read the full article, click here. i seriously think that trying to remake the first 2 movies would be ridiculous. What I would find to be great would be a mortal kombat mythologies: sub-zero movie. It has everyone’s favorite characters: Scorpion, sub-zero, raiden, quan chi, and others like sareena, shinnok, the wind god (fujin, unless he wasnt the wind god during the time of the original sub-zero), as well as the other gods and enemies. Now cmon, what kind of mortal kombat fan wouldnt want to see scorpion and sub-zero going at it all throughout the movie? Furthermore, it would make for a great storyline because the events are already set in stone in the game. If any of the movie director people happen to scan this comment, please take it into consideration.

Ummm.. I think they shoul dis-regard the first to movie’s and go along with the “batman beings” idea of just making the mk with no regards to the two previous movies.
And the whole sub zero movie..all i gotta say is hell no.

definitely a good idea to scratch the whole thing and start fresh. a sub zero mythologies movie would be awesome. to the person say said sub zero movie would be bad… you must not have played the game… because it was begging to be made into a movie. and also, as long as they make the new movies darker and more real and true to the game… all will go well.

I grow tired of the MK universe, anyway. They take too long to produce anything worth watching, and the games are always more of the same, and that’d be okay, but more of the same means more combo frustration and more crappy stories.
MK Armageddon was okay for its overall presentation, but it’s really the only good production since the first film. In my opinion, MK is a dying franchise, and nothing will save it, not even the fans.
I’m currently trying to collect all the Conquest episodes, because I always thought that was a good show, but this new film sounds like Conquest to me, so I’ll be looking forward to seeing it, just to see if I’m right.

Conquest sucked. Case in point: It broke the cardinal rule of MK in that it didn’t even start with a K. WTF.
The Batman Begins style idea is only cool in the sense that Batman Begins took out all of the cheeseball bullshit and made things raw and explicable. It cut to the root of things and that’s what people love. However, the root of Mortal Kombat was never delved in too deeply, and what was explained of it has already been explained quite tediously throughout the first two movies, sans the inclusion of Kung Lao.
So no, this new movie should not start all over from the beginning. We MK fans have moved on from the realm of only 20 characters from the first three games. Half of whom had no real significance. Sonya, Jax, and Johnny Cage can suck it. Emphasis on Sub Zero is an interesting idea, only in the sense that Liu Kang is no longer cool as well. With the past three Mortal Kombat games, we’ve moved on! Sub Zero was always a cooler (pun intended?) and deeper character than Liu Kang- everyone knows that. The only need there is for a main character is because every plotline generally fails without one (unless the writer is a genius, which will never be the case for a MK movie, let’s face it). In the past three MKs, we’ve grown used to it being a joint struggle not just to save the world anymore, but everyone’s got a story. If they were refer back to the old comics’ way of working the storyline from different characters’/groups’ perspectives and goals, then I think it would be an incredible success. You could start off the movie with Sub Zero and Scorpion’s classic death-match, and have that struggle go through the first half of the movie until Scorpion realizes, halfway through that Quan Chi was behind it and have that little quest on the side; have the Earth warriors joined with Kitana and whomever, then Baraka and Mileena, Quan Chi and Shang Tsung teaming up…Involve Shao Kahn and Shinnok, or Shinnok and the Dragon King, but never just Shao Kahn. We’re tired of him. There are better possibilities. The Lin Kuei and the Tarkatans definitely need to be involved in this. Hell, actually- Kenshi could be the new hero, right? Or even Shujinko.

well, plainly, mink is going to direct it… think about it, his other two movies was a steven segal film and a busta rhymes film… SUPER SUPER SUPER CHEESE… be prepared MK fans for the cheesiest MK movie of all time. dare i say? cheesier than annihilation!!!??

I think Smoke needs a stronger supporting role, my self. You guys remember him, right? No really as a main character, I just want to see more of him, if only as a messenger or assassin type. Oh, and, Obied, was it? A Sub Zero movie would be a little refreshment from the Same Ol’ Same Ol’.

Both the mk movies were great had a Awsome story line
for them, like mk 1 the whole purpose of that movie was
for Shang Tsung to get the kombatanets to his island.
and all in all it was no easy task then there was the story line for kano and sonya and moved on to cage and scorpion
then the storyline on how luikang’s brother died by Shang Tsung’s
hands that movie was kick ass.
ok now on two mk2 The main pupose of this movie
is Shao Kahn enters the scene. And kills johnny cage
and starts his anillantion on earth.
storyline 1 lui kang learns animlity to sommon is animal spirit
meets nightwolf and binds with jade later soyna fights cyrax while helping jax so jax enters the scene. later baraka captures pinncess katana and liu kang saves her after fighting baraka,
finaly the coolest battle lui kang vs Shao Kahn turn into there
animality kang the dragon and Shao Kahn the 4 headed snake
sick ass battle there.
All in all do me a favour and pull ur heads out ur ass’s
both movies proved to have the key aspects of mk But i will agree with u on one thing they neeed to make this a M rated movie

I think they should use the Buckethead version of the Mortal Kombat Theme. It is more up to date and fast paced, which would be perfect for the new movie. Plus, Buckethead is awesome

Check this out. To my sub zero fans, Thanks. To that dude that was talking junk about sub zero, what the hell is wrong with your ass. I should do a fatality on you. Anyway, the movie should be about how Sub Zero and the Lin Kuei battle against the forces of outworld. There should also be a lot of conflict with Scorpion. All of this should be done while trying to cleanse Noob Saibot’s soul(Noob Saibot is the original Sub Zero corrupted by a fallen elder god). In the end, there should be an all out war between The Lin Kuei, Shao Kahn and his army, The Dragon King, The two sorcerors(Shang Tsung and Quan Chi), the Tarkatans, the Shaolin monks, Kitana and Sindel’s Edenian forces, the other MK ninjas, Noob Saibot and his brotherhood of shadow, Blaze, and any Kombatants i may have missed. It should be true Armageddon. Oh, and if y’all aren’t familiar with any of the people I’ve named, freshen up your Mortal Kombat knowledge and get into the storylines a bit.

Starting over would be great but it probably wouldn’t happen.
The stories are too mixed up. Sub-Zero wasn’t killed by scorpion. These two weren’t even shang stungs pawns. THat was reptile. Which the sub zero fight and reptile fight were both great. Goro was supposed to be the guy you had to beat to face shang. And kano shouldn’t have died. And who the hell is Art??
They completely made a mess with mixing 1 with 2 then 2 with 3. It would have been better to keep them seperate. Shaolin Monks would have been a great movie. You need Kintaro.
Where was sector in anihilation? Sub-zero 2 should have been better confronted by scorpion who had no point in the movie. Smoke should have started off as a human then turned cyber ninja and had a bigger role. They clustered everything. Sheeva stepped in for a second and was crushed. Baraka wasn’t a bad ass. Mileena should have been killed by kitana. Jade should have been under a spell. Where is the origional sub zeros ghost noob saibot, he shoud be there by now.
Motaro was killed by Jax? By being puched in his horse chest?
And when did Shoa Kahn turn into a small human then a beast?
Shao Khan should have been a huge bad ass that just beat the hell out of people.
IDK. Lui Kang is still a bad ass, and always a champ of mk so the story is definatley his unless they kill him and bring him back later. Sub Zero is definately the next best candidate.
More ninjas! Sub, scorpion and smoke. But smoke is dead now. So noob should be around. Kenshi is great and the Idea of the deadly alliance/ deception movie would be great.
Kintaro should be there. The Black Dragons should be there as well. I just hope they don’t make the next movie a p.o.s.
The first movie wasn’t bad, if you didn’t follow mk then it was probably awsome, but the second was definately a d film.

Okay personally, i would have to say to hell with the first two movies. I believe they were pretty well done for the day and age they were made in. Though still entertaining to watch (at least the first one) once in awhile. Mortal Kombat needs a total revamp.
I was personally very surprised when I saw MK Armageddon’s intro movie. The very first thing I thought was. “Oh my god that would be a kick ass finally fight.” Of course the idea of that battle not the actuality of scene. Can you honestly say when you saw Stryker take a cheap shot and punching the hell out of Melina didn’t make you just die laughing?
I say instead of what most people are saying about Lui Kang or Sub-Zero, it would make more sense to do Kung Lou as the main character (he was a bit neglected in the original movies). I personally would love to see Linden Ashby reprise the role as the ever sarcastic and cocky Johnny Cage (my favorite character in the MK universe).
Another great approach as I stated earlier would be to make a multi plotted story (as long as it wasn’t just pieced together). To create the final conflict as shown in the battle of the opening of Armageddon. Only staying true to the beginning franchised characters (as adding too many plots of the MK world would be way too confusing and quite annoying to be shoved into a two hour movie).
With whatever happens though I truly hope that they bring back Christopher Lambert if they plan on bringing in Rayden (as James Remar was quite annoying and sadly quite forgettable as Lord Rayden).
With all that said, I hope that they do Mortal Kombat justice for what we all love it to be. I wouldn’t want a second revisit to a game, where would be the fun in that? Nonetheless though, I would love to see a truly epic reintroduction of Mortal Kombat.
With my two cents put in, I hope it doesn’t disappoint. I choose to save judgment until it’s release and I hope you all will do the same.

“redoing” the MK franchise, while using the same actors (christopher lambert, linden ashby, robin shou, etc) would be like batman begins with michael keaton, or even the dark knight with an old crusty jack nicholson reprising his role as the joker. As much as I’d love to see the cast from the first movie return for another run, it would just confuse people to see them playing the same roles in the same plot maybe even saying the same things, yet 15 years later. Mortal Kombat Annihilation did to the MK franchise what Batman & Robin did to the batman franchise. So in my opinion most people are going to go see SAW XXVI before they even consider buying tickets for MK3 if its done in what I’m predicting to be a comical childish “will only please 10 year old die-hard MK fans” way. So for the love of god, for the sake of those of us who were alive when the first game came out, let us hope it’s a dark, serious re-creation that will make us forget about MKA and the horrors it brought to the franchise.

Ok the movies were good but they need to get bettter. What made us like the games? Blood, fights, and of course the fatalitys. This movie has to become an r rated movie to get the fans back. After mk2 I don’t know if 3 will be any better.

The mortal kombat movie should take place where it left, there is nothing more than what ppl hate like prequels. It should take place somewhat where Shinnok escapes the netherrhealm and forms aliances with quan chi, and of course have some other stuff, remeber the story line of MK is huge, not as big as WOW. but there is a lot u can do with it, but just dont forget to keep the 2 main counterparts sub zero and scorpion out of it, wouldnt be MK without them 2, Plus would be great to have some new faces from the later games, maybe see Rain ressurected, But with the new video/ cpu designing that out there, only thing that can prevent this movie from being any good is a low budget, plus u got to remember, 1 on 1 Versus games, MK wins all but vote of course, so it is factual.

if all you people are as big of a fan as you think than you should just trust their jugment an let them do their job cause it doesnt really matter how the movie is as long as they have the same charicters an the same story line than thats good.i do agree with some people when they say its been ten years since the last movie that is a bit to long to wate but you cant speed the prosses up an you cant put a price on perfection

GORE!!!
Thats right MK pushed limits to the max
And I know they can push a MK movies to the max too.
The way I’ve always imagined Mortal Kombat
Is Dark and horrific
I want to see this movie have a lot of blood
And intense fighting scenes
I want the characters to look detail
Like Scorpion
He should look horrifying.
Just really badass fighting with some combos and finishers.
Please put some finishers
Can you picture how neat that would look?
I can. I’ve had This Image in my head for a long time
And I’m only 18 and I have a huge vision for Mortal Kombat
I’ve been playing MK for a long time
I want this movie to stand out from other fighing movies
Its not gonna be Street Fighter Or Tekken

in all reality, a GOOD Mortal Kombat game should be rated R, for the violence and gore. UNFORTUNATELY, Threshold wants MK to be marketable, so it won’t go any farther than PG-13.

The Mortal Kombat Design Team Sucks.
Mortal kombat has not had ONE “Ground Breaking” New Character since 1995.
These characters actually had potential but, they sucked…Sheeva, Kabal, Smoke, Syndel, Motaro, uhh…Jade.
Hand it over to someone who knows Principle.
Someone who is going somewhere in the world.
Someone Who loves what he creates.
and has the balls to say i dont care what you think cause I know my Ideas will Change The World.
Love, means the character is Complete, PERFECT, in every ones eyes.! They know its great. They See Perfection.
And most of all a Human is Distinguishable from everyone else. Thats what Mortal Kombat Did. But from 3<, Hell No.
