Series Co-Creator Ed Boon Mentions New MK Flick in Podcast
OXM Magazine runs a weekly podcast where a couple of guys yammer on every week about.. well, official X-Box things. Included in last week’s show was an exclusive 20 minute interview with MK series co-creator Ed Boon.
The gentlemen knew a thing or two about the series, movies, and gaming in general so I’m glad the subject of the movie (and various bad video game movies) came up, giving Ed a chance to answer some queries in a loose and partially non-politically correct medium.
Paraphrasing what was said, Ed basically mentioned that many scripts have come through Midway’s doors courtesy of Threshold’s free time, dialogues have broken out and he *mentioned* that a certain script HAD been picked, and that there *could* be discussion going on about shooting locations and preliminary scouting. No other news. I loved how one of the men described the project to be in ‘development hell’, citing that the project most likely doesn’t make it past the tables that guys in suits sit at over lunch. Ed did not dismiss this hypothesis.

August 3rd, 2008 at 9:27 pm
that was posted here earlier, he is, or at least was at one time, attached to direct, but since there isn’t a script yet, that could be putting the cart before the horse….

Think of the millions of fans from across the globe who want this movie to happen! Make their dreams come true guys! After all, think of less popular franchises such as Tremors which ended up doing three spin offs….why not give MK fans something to cheer about and complete the trology with a third movie.

‘mink’ the suposed director of the movie said that when the script was finished filming would begin – so months later and ed boon announces the script has been picked and still nothing, MK and Theshold entertainment seem to have little respect for their fans who they expect to cough up money for their games, well- I ain’t buying anymore mk games untill this movie is done, paul.

is mink still on board though? I thought EVERYTHING had been scrapped.

I think its good for Ed Boon and Larry Kasanoff
talking on new Mortal Kombat so I think the cast should be new all other actors like Robin Shou,Linden Ashby and Christopher Lambert should move on so there can have new actors to play Rayden,Liu Kang Johnny Cage,Kung Lao and Sonya.
So the new for this new Mortal Kombat remake.
Thank you.

Well, I emailed the webmaster (think his name is Cody), Shinnokxz this link awhile ago and I can’t reach him on AIM, if he still has it, but I came across this awhile ago, great news!
http://www.moviehole.net/200815271-filmmaker-still-game-for-mortal-kombat
“Moviehole caught up with Christopher ‘mink’ Morrison, director of the forthcoming “Mortal Kombat 3” (or whatever they end up calling it; I believe it’s more of a remake than anything so it’s just as likely they’ll call it simply “Mortal Kombat”), about where the project is currently at.
Unfortunately, it’s still a little while off fans – but mink assures us it’s still on the drawing board.”
More in the link!

Finally, we see the third of our greatest warriors battling it out to keep the realms from shattering, one thing, is this film going to be an unnecessary pile of gore and blood and have been placed in the “Adults Only” section? If so then it’ll be boring, I really want a film with the main relevancy of what it is supposed to show, not another all special effects and no flair, people in the film industry do this half the time with programmers and designers to make there film good and it ends up people coming out with very idiotic remarks like the supporting companies “5/5 you should definitely watch this *film’s name*” which is rather pathetic. So lets be optimistic about this one, who will join me in a battle cry? 3… 2 … 1! MORTAL KOMBAT!!!!!!!!!!!!!…

Christopher ‘Mink’ Morrison tells us that although things have gone a bit quiet on the oft-mentioned “Mortal Kombat” remake things “are still stewing”. Meantime, Mink is working on a project called “Ninja Gaiden” – based on the video-game of the same name.

- Warner Bros looks set to takeover Midway Games, which owns the “Mortal Kombat” franchise. If it does, that could be good news for director ‘Mink’ whose been trying to get a “Mortal Kombat” reboot off the ground for a couple of years now. Fingers will be crossed for you buddy. GAME ON!
From http://www.moviehole.com
Hope that’s true, for the movie!

Apparantly it IS true that Warner Bros. is trying to buy Midway, however, whether or not it’ll help the MK movie….. well, it definately can’t HURT it….
