About This Site
The Unofficial Mortal Kombat 3 Movie Page is a site dedicated towards tracking the movement of, as you guessed it, the third Mortal Kombat movie. This movie has been anticipated by many of the fans of the franchise, and has seen many glances from movie-goers as well. Though to some the movie is but a mere curiosity (“Interested to see what they do to follow up Annihilation”), but to others it is as big as any of the new video games by the franchise (“Read through my fanfic and script and please tell me if Threshold will like it”).
This site has been in service First Unofficial MK3 Movie Page, under the management of Cory Hansen (Shinnokxz). It would not be where it’s at without its readers, friends, and especially the hosting (MK Online).
First, a brief history lesson. The initial Mortal Kombat movie, released in 1995, movie was a box office success, and for a long while, was considered as one of the ‘elite’ game-to-movie conversions. Others have come and done well, but there is no argument that there is still an interest and target niche for the movie franchise.
The inevitability of a sequel was just as heavy as its likeliness to fail, and thus MK: Annihilation. Threshold has openly blamed New Line Cinema (its publisher) for poor management of the development of the film, and that’s that. A movie can only be as good as the management that put their efforts into it, regardless of content, plot, previous successes.
Not more than a year after the 1997 release of Annihilation, rumors began to swirl about a third movie. This was much fueled by the continued sells of the video game titles. Ranging from 2001 and onward, Threshold has publicized many off-the-cuff mentions of a third movie, which lead to much fan interest and eventually the birth of this site.
This site’s basic premise is and always has been correlating rumors regarding MK3 into one source as to provide a down to Earth and realistic vantage point of a movie that, to put it bluntly, has been in Development Hell for well over half a decade now. Threshold has issues some subtle hints of various elements that have snagged the movie over the years, however there is only one known thing about the third Mortal Kombat movie: is that it is NOT a certainty, and that anything can still happen- and I mean anything.
Anything might mean that it can be officially canceled, or rushed into production and thrown into the public within a year. It doesn’t take an advanced mind in the movie industry to realize where exactly this picture is.
The site has always gathered and compiled its information from other sites, citing proper sources of course. I always referred to these articles of information as ‘blurbs’, as they are nothing ever huge, are most likely incorrect, and whom the author did not do very much research before publishing. These generally came from other general movie news sites. But an interesting evolution of THIS site has been that it has had a couple of connections come forward and dispute, help piece together, and even confirm these previously mentioned ‘blurbs’. This includes PR representatives for actors associated with the films and crew from the films, past and present.
I by no means have Ed Boon on speed dial, nor does Chris Casamassa’s agent check in on me at the slightest step of positive forth. You’re most likely not going to find the debut of a full length trailer here, nor anything else that could be considered insider PR. This is an information database. Agreeably, I have not been the fanciest or on-the-ball webmaster at organizing and reporting this information, but my message has gone through to many people.
I am not Threshold, nor do I have any creative ties with this movie. I am sorry, but I do not filter fanfics, actor ideas, extra auditions, or have anything to do with the movie behind-the-scenes. If you have interest in working on this film (or a film like this), please contact an agent for these sort of things. I do not facilitate such inquiries.
